Welcome
Welcome to the Official site for the Turks and Caicos National Museum.

On this site you will find out about all of our displays and collections, our ongoing research and the work of the Museum.

In these pages you will find a thorough record on all aspects of the History of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The pages show material that is on display: The Molasses Reef Shipwreck, Lucayans, Space Race, Stamps and plants in the Museum Garden. If you want just an idea of the history of the islands visit the section entitled Timeline.

There is also material from our recent research projects. This covers such things as slavery, Message in a Bottle Project, Royal Events, Sisal industry, Salt Industry and shipwrecks.

We are also more than a Museum. We are a historic building, The Guinep House, we have a Museum Shop, research facilities, a range of activities such as Museum Day, a Museum Archive and museum Library and you can find out how to become a Museum Member to be kept informed of our work.

The Museum is a not for profit organization and is run as an independent company with a Board of Trustees. You can help support the Museum with donations directly to the Museum or via the Friends of the Turks and Caicos National Museum based in the USA, and which is tax exempt.

Throughout these pages are a large number of photographs. The Museum archive of over 5000 images is available for viewing at the Museum. If you would like to use any for publication please contact the Museum for more information.

Enjoy your visit to our website and please give the Museum feedback on what you liked or what you would like to see on these pages.

What's New

2009 Fort St George Project
Ships of Discovery and the Turks & Caicos National Museum are teaming up to delve into one of the most interesting, but little known, stories in the islands. Tiny Fort St George Cay receives nearly 20,000 visitors a year, yet very little is known about the soldiers who manned the fort in the 1780s. The project to explore the island and to document the remains of the fort will begin on October 23 and run through November 6, 2009. Learn about the Expedition Team of archaeologists and volunteers, read A Brief History of the Fort, and stay up to date with discoveries with the Expedition Daily Log at:

Where is Simon, Sandy?
This delightful book written by Donna Marie Seim and illustrated by Susan Spellman is the story of a little donkey that wouldn't quit. The setting is Grand Turk, the capitol of the Turks & Caicos Islands. It is a folktale from the islands that has been passed down by word of mouth but has never been written down before. Published by Publishing Works in Exeter, New Hampshire, in cooperation with the Turks and Caicos National Museum, all sales will support the Children's Program of the museum. The book is available on line at PublishingWorks.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders Books and Amazon.com. It can also be purchased at the Unicorn Bookstore in Providinciales, the Grand Turk Inn, The Osprey, Bohio, and Mitch's Dive Shop on Grand Turk. It is also available at the museum gift shop.
