Book Review – The Birds of the Turks & Caicos Islands by Richard Ground It has been a long time coming but at last there is now a book specifically on the birds of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Richard Ground, an avid amateur photographer and collector, has captured the wonderful array of bird life on the Islands. Not written from an overly scientific background but from a keen amateur who enthuses about his subject this book takes the reader from bird to bird, capturing their colours, sounds, and one might even say character. The book also unashamedly takes several detours, including sections on Butterflies, Moths (another one of Richard’s interests) and lizards as well the bird’s habitats. This is one of the highest quality books that has ever been produced on an aspect of life on the Turks and Caicos Islands. The photographs are of an outstanding quality and would put many a professional to shame and the straightforward layout aids the reader. Used in conjunction with the National Trust of the Turks and Caicos Islands’ Official Checklist of the Birds of the TCI this is a must for all visiting and resident bird watchers. The book is available at the Museum shop and Red Cross Shop as well as from the National Trusts who are getting the proceeds from its sales. The book is priced at $20.
