The Anchors
©Ships of Discovery

This image shows the anchors being shipped to the Museum. Only the sheet anchor was found on the wreck. A ship of this size would have been carrying 6 or 7 anchors which suggests that the crew knew it was being drawn onto the reef and one by one the anchors failed to stop the ship. One other anchor of roughly the right date was found nearby but it was sufficiently far enough away from the site of the wreck to lead archaeologists to query whether it belonged to the wreck or another ship.
