Turks Island Gates |
Itinerant salt rakers from Bermuda first came to the Turks Islands in the 1660s and began to establish a permanent presence 100 years later. The Islands maintain a close cultural connection to Bermuda. These gates, each with its own version of Bermuda style gateposts, can be seen all over Grand Turk and Salt Cay. The Museum has recorded a number of the gates before they disappear to Island development.
